Playing politics with Buffalo Grove band's name

The election for Buffalo Grove village trustees may be over, but one of the candidates who finished out of the running, Michael Terson, has referenced one of the year's biggest controversies involving Trustee Lisa Stone in naming his new band.

Terson will play on Saturday, Jan. 23, at The Roadhouse, 200 Prairie St., Elgin, with the group Hipcheck16.

The band's name refers to an anonymous poster on a Daily Herald comment board who is currently the object of litigation by Stone. She wants to know who made the comment because she is considering taking legal action because of what was said about her son.

"We started the band around the time the story first gained popularity and I sarcastically suggested using Hipcheck16 as a band name," he said, adding he thinks the lawsuit is ridiculous. "When the other guys liked it, I asked some friends what they thought, and they all loved it."

Terson said in a recent Facebook posting that he has found two "phenomenal" guitar players for his band, which will also be playing Saturday, Feb. 27 at Shark City in Glendale Heights.

Terson and Stone recently locked horns over the eSkape entertainment center's proposal for a dance club and Stone has said that the person who brought a complaint about her campaign disclosure forms to the state election board was Terson's campaign manager.

Terson and the person who filed the complaint deny that, but the caption on a photo in a local newspaper listed the man as Terson's campaign manager. The complaint wasn't upheld.
