Don't try this at home -- really: Your tongue really will stick to cold metal
Yes, kids. When you try and lick a frozen metal pole, there's a chance your lips and tongue will become uncomfortably attached.
A young Carpentersville boy relived the scene from "A Christmas Story" when he licked a metal light pole in front of his house on the 100 block of Sioux Avenue in the Indian section of the village last Tuesday.
Fire Chief John Schuldt said the 6-year-old boy was not injured in the incident but was stuck for about 10 minutes before fire crews arrived. Schuldt said officers poured warm water on the area to unstick the boy.
"It was the first one of the season," Schuldt said.
Toy donations: The Carpentersville Fire Department is collecting Toys for Tots until Wednesday, Dec. 23 at Fire Station Number 1, 213 Spring St. as well as Station Number 3 at 5000 Sleepy Hollow Road. The stations are open 24 hours a day and people are encouraged to drop off items whenever they have time.
Join them: Carpentersville is looking for members to join the village's planning and zoning commission, a seven-member panel appointed by the village president and board of trustees.
The appointment is a five-year term. Those interested must be a registered voter and a resident of at least one year. The PZC meets once each month and duties include review and consideration of subdivision plats, zoning variation requests, special use permit requests, and certain types of administrative appeals. In some instances the planning and zoning commission is empowered to make final determinations, while in other instances the commission functions in an advisory capacity to the Village Board by providing recommendations.
Letters of interest may be sent to Village President Ed Ritter at Village Hall, 1200 LW Besinger Drive, Carpentersville, 60110, no later than December 31.
