Standardized tests need a second look
A problem with today's school system is that too much value is placed on the standard tests given each year. I think the importance of standard testing needs to be re-evaluated, as long as the school systems remain unchanged in the ways of teaching and testing.
Studies have shown that schools with a large population of minority students have fewer expectations and lower goals to achieve. There is a much more diverse population in schools now than there was more than 50 years ago, not only including minorities but women as well. Also, so many children have a form of test anxiety, so we can't possibly judge their results as accurate.
It would benefit everyone's future if we could take a closer look at the standard tests we give and how accurate they are.
