How do we slow bus drivers?

What is being done about the speeding problem on Middle Street in South Elgin? Very little.

I am friends with our police chief and village administrator, who used to be police chief, and back in October I had a meeting with them to discuss the speeding problem on Middle Street and my concern about the U-46 school bus drivers and the safety of the kids.

A few tickets have been written to speeders, but nothing to the extent of what really should be written. A couple more 25 mph signs have been put up by our public works department, but the speeding continues.

Back in October, I even had a meeting, with Lindsey Harris at U-46, and discussed her drivers' lack of willingness to obey the very laws that they are trained to obey. It is part of their job.

She said she would send out a memo to the drivers, and to her credit, she must have. Some of the U-46 drivers, have slowed down, but most of them are still speeding by my house with kids on board, in a school zone, and nobody is doing anything about it. I have yet to see our police write a ticket to any bus drivers for speeding on Middle Street.

I hope that someone in our village and at U-46, who cares about the safety of us residents who live on Middle Street and especially those of the schoolchildren will do something about this speeding situation.
