Two arrested after Villa Park liquor store robbery, chase

Two men were arrested following a liquor store robbery in Villa Park and a subsequent high-speed chase that ended Thursday night in Lombard.

Herminio Concepción, 28, of Maywood, and Daniel Colon, 24, of Chicago, are charged with an array of felonies and misdemeanors stemming from the incident. They are both being held at the DuPage County jail in Wheaton in lieu of $500,000 bonds each.

Villa Park police said the duo robbed a liquor store at 1011 W. North Ave. just before 9 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses reported they fled west in a white work van.

Police located the van and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over and led officers on a high-speed chase that ended when the van crashed into several cars in the parking lot of an auto dealership at 725 Roosevelt Road in Lombard.

Police said the two had pushed the male liquor store clerk and a female customer to the ground before taking money from a cash register.

Police said Colon and Concepción also stabbed two men who confronted them just outside the liquor store when they tried to flee.

The two male victims were treated and released from Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, police said. Lt. Mike Lay said multiple items were recovered that could have caused the stabbing injuries.

Colon and Concepción were charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and resisting arrest. Additionally, Concepción was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding and criminal damage to property.
