Roadway debris leads to more than a dozen flats on I-90
Roughly 15 to 20 unsuspecting motorists driving west along the I-90 tollway near Arlington Heights Road got a nasty surprise late Thursday morning as their tires burst from construction debris on the roadway.
"There were no accidents, but there were a number of vehicles with flat tires," tollway authority spokeswoman Joelle McGinnis said. "We don't have any construction in that area. It's not related to our construction."
McGinnis said concrete material had likely fallen off a truck traveling along the roadway east of Arlington Heights Road.
State troopers helped several motorists change tires and one vehicle had to be towed. Highway maintenance trucks have since cleaned up the debris.
