Davis endorses Brown for Cook County Board President

U.S. Rep. Danny Davis has thrown his support behind Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown in the race for Cook County board president, a post he once considered for himself.

The Chicago Democrat tells The Associated Press that Brown has vision for the county and is "the people's choice."

Davis dropped out of the race last month, saying it was too politically risky for him to run against other the three other black candidates in the Feb. 2 primary. He says he didn't want the candidates competing for the same political base.

Instead, he's decided to seek re-election for his 7th congressional seat, which he has held since 1997.

The candidates running are current president Todd Stroger, Chicago Alderman Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Water Reclamation District President Terry O'Brien.
