Two charged in North Aurora burglaries
A North Aurora police officer was recovering Tuesday from minor injuries he received while arresting a burglary suspect over the weekend.
Police said the officer was hurt when the suspect broke away from police and crashed his vehicle into a parked squad car.
"He's going to be fine," North Aurora Lt. Scott Buziecki said of the injured officer. "He's going to miss some work, but he'll be OK."
Officers were called to the 300 block of Western Drive shortly before midnight Sunday for a report of a burglary in progress.
Police said Marquette D. Joyner, 17, of Montgomery, was arrested at the scene without incident, but a second man, identified as Andrew R. Nagy, 18, of Yorkville, broke free and ran to his vehicle.
As officers attempted to remove Nagy from the vehicle, he backed into an unoccupied squad car, then became stuck in a patch of snow, police said.
One officer was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening at Provena-Mercy Medical Center in Aurora and released.
Nagy and Joyner each were charged with two counts of felony burglary, and Nagy was charged with additional felony counts of disarming a peace officer, aggravated resisting a peace officer, aggravated battery, and criminal damage to state-supported property, as well as misdemeanor reckless conduct and drug paraphernalia possession. A third man was released without charges.
Police believe the pair is responsible for at least two vehicle burglaries on Western Avenue in which a pair of sunglasses, an iPod, an amplifier and speaker box were among the stolen goods.
Buziecki said the men also may have possessed additional stolen property that could be tied to other burglaries in the area.
"A lot of times, there's more," Buziecki said. "I'm not sure our investigators have been able to account for everything yet."
Nagy was being held on a $100,000 bond Tuesday in the Kane County jail. Joyner was released from jail after posting $3,000 to get out.
