Fear of socialized medicine justified

Some people find themselves to be outraged by comments in the newspaper about socializing the proposed health care bill. Kelan McDonnell of Winfield was so outraged he needed to write a letter asking questions and making some head-scratching comments.

He questions why we might fear socialized medicine when we have public schools, police and fire departments, etc. Let me help you understand. This current health care bill will take over one-sixth of this nation's GDP with full government control. If this were allowed to happen, the government would own us. They will tell us what doctors we can see, what procedures can be done, and how much we will pay. Those are liberties and choices we enjoy today that will be gone. Your examples of socialized programs do not own us.

This attempt to pass a socialized bill is a power grab by the Democrats in the attempt to have more people dependent on the government. When this happens, we diminish our quality of life, have less disposable income due to the government costs, and minimize the initiative to be successful. That is not good for this country.

Then Kelan says "An intelligent person would realize that government programs do not diminish freedoms." Really, let's take a look at this proposed bill. First, our freedom to choose our doctors, programs, etc...will be gone. Second, if you do not buy insurance, you will be fined. If you do not pay the fine, you will face prison.

Lastly, he does not want us to be scared about paying a fine for not buying insurance because the same applies to not paying other taxes. Being forced to purchase a product called health insurance is not a tax. There is justified fear behind socialized medicine.
