Admit it, Cal, it's all about money
In the Nov. 27 opinion column, Cal Thomas wrote about the federal government taking over health care and how government can't run anything. I guess he means Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, FDIC, FEMA, OSHA, FDA, fire, police and libraries.
He rants about control of our lives and how personal responsibility, self-reliance and freedom should determine if you have health care - pulling yourself up by the bootstraps, etc. If insurance companies had operated fairly we would not be having this debate. Instead, they brought to the table terms like pre-existing conditions, experimental treatments, sky high premiums and denying coverage.
If you're too sick to work, how can you be self-reliant? Insurance companies have gorged themselves on the U.S. populace since Reagan. Now they're crying - regulation will cut into their CEO's bonuses.
Why doesn't Thomas stop preaching about freedom and self-reliance and admit the truth. It's about the money - it's always about the money. Cal should sell his health care mutual fund because the returns will not be as robust. Conservatives hide behind a mantra of freedom but rarely have fought for it. Thomas should read the story of the good samaritan if he wants to preach.
