Villa Park man dies following car crash

Authorities believe a 70-year-old Villa Park man suffered a medical emergency that led to a three-car crash Monday morning.

The man, whose identity was not made public, was taken to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead following the 6:45 a.m. crash in the intersection of St. Charles Road and Villa Avenue.

Villa Park patrol services Police Chief Bob Budig said the man was stopped in the northbound lane of Villa Avenue when he suffered a "medical issue" and his car began lurching forward at a slow rate of speed. It eventually struck a car in the southbound left-turn lane, which was pushed into another vehicle. Budig said the impact of the crash was not forceful enough to cause life-threatening injuries.

A second driver also was transported to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and later released, police said.

No citations have been issued, Budig said. The accident is being investigated by the DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Team.
