2 accused of fatally shooting college student

GRANITE CITY -- A man and a teenager are jailed without bond on charges that they fatally shot a 19-year-old college student in his vehicle last week in the victim's southwestern Illinois hometown of Granite City.

Madison County prosecutors on Monday charged 21-year-old Vincent Blue and 16-year-old Javeon Hawkins of Collinsville with first-degree murder and armed robbery. Hawkins will be tried as an adult.

Police say Stephen Nemsky was shot in the neck in his pickup truck last Thursday night in Granite City and crashed.

Blue's mother declined to discuss the charges Monday with The Associated Press, and she said her son doesn't have an attorney. Hawkins does not have a listed home telephone number.

Nemsky was studying automotive collision repair at Southwestern Illinois College.

His services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Irwin Chapel in Granite City.
