Maine West knocks off Glenbrook North

Maine West's girls basketball team got back to .500 for the season, and more importantly, improved to 3-0 in the Central Suburban North with a 53-37 victory at Glenbrook North on Thursday night.

Despite senior standouts Megan O'Neill and Sam Acosta being sidelined for the final six minutes of the first half with 3 fouls apiece, the Warriors led 27-24 at the break, then outscored the Spartans 11-2 in the third quarter.

O'Neill led the Warriors (5-5) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Amanda Hoye tossed in 14 points with a pair of 3-pointers.

Acosta also converted a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.

West senior forward Ellen Coogan saw limited playing time because of illness. Junior forward Katherine Kusner did not play. Kusner has suffered a fractured pelvis, according to Warriors coach Derril Kipp, and will be out of action for six weeks.

Kipp needs 5 more wins to reach 700 for his career.
