The big guy is ready and waiting at Naperville's Santa House

Santa Claus has arrived in Naperville and he's accepting visitors.

The Naperville Park District transformed the pavilion at the Riverwalk into the Santa House for the eighth year, giving children a chance to make sure the jolly old elf knows what's on their wish lists.

Santa will be in the house at Jackson Avenue and Webster Street from 5 to 8 p.m. on Fridays and noon to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 20. The Santa House also will be open 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 to 17 and 2 to 8 p.m. Dec. 21 and 22.

Visits are free and no reservations are needed. Santa House usually draws at least 3,000 visitors per season.

"The thing that's really cool is Santa takes his time with each family," said Sameera Luthman, director of marketing and communications. "Kids can come in, parents can come in, take pictures, get a candy cane."

Photos in commemorative folders are for sale for $8 each or two for $15.

Crews constructed Santa House in November, transforming the pavilion into a cozy red, white and green cottage fit for the special guest from the North Pole. Earlier this month, Santa visited with children with special needs and pets with their owners.

Luthman said seeing Santa on the Riverwalk is a different experience than the traditional visit at a mall.

"It's unique in that it's in the downtown area," she said. "It's got its own unique ambiance as it is."
