DuPage Symphony, glee club combine for show

The DuPage Symphony Orchestra and the Naperville Men's Glee Club - and their directors - will put a new twist on an old tradition when they join musical forces this weekend.

The DSO's 2009 holiday concert, "Winter Dreams," begins at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, and will be repeated at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at Wentz Concert Hall on the North Central College campus in Naperville.

"We've never collaborated before with the Naperville Men's Glee Club and we're very excited about that," said Kathy Kane, secretary of the DSO board.

The family-friendly program features the glee club's traditional Advent Opening and the DSO's presentation of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1 in G Minor. The two musical groups will perform Randol Bass' "A Feast of Carols" and other holiday tunes together, with DSO Music Director Barbara Schubert and Naperville Men's Glee Club Conductor Bonnie Klee Roberts sharing the conducting duties.

The program includes a singalong of favorite holiday carols.

Audience members are asked to bring a donation of nonperishable food or toiletries for the People's Resource Center in Wheaton, which serves needy families throughout DuPage County.

Celebrated soprano soloist Cynthia Haymon also joins the DSO for the holiday concert.
