Lake Zurich man gets 6 months for selling guns

A Lake Zurich man was sentenced Tuesday to six months of periodic time in jail for trying to sell four guns and ammunition on the Internet.

Joshua L. Cohn must turn himself in Jan. 4. He also must serve 30 months' probation.

Cohn, 28, pleaded guilty to the unlawful sale of firearms. He faced up to six years in prison for the felony.

He apologized before DuPage Circuit Judge Kathryn Creswell handed down the sentence. Cohn said he never meant to harm anyone. It's unclear where he obtained the weapons.

Agents with the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group arrested Cohn last year after he posted ads on Craigslist attempting to sell the weapons and eight boxes of ammunition.

"This is a good gun," Cohn said in one Nov. 9, 2008 ad. "Very old; in decent shape and shoots."

Cohn has a prior criminal conviction in McHenry County for a 2003 bank robbery in which he received 36 months' probation, 120 days in jail and 200 hours of community service.
