Peterson Road to close for CN work

A stretch of Petersen Road, just west of Route 45, will close for about 8 hours Friday to allow the Canadian National Railroad to repair the railroad crossing.

The crossing will shut down at 8 a.m. Dec. 11, officials said, and reopen at 4 p.m. the same day. Canadian National officials asked that the road be closed during the repair.

"It won't be for a long time so it's not a complete replacement," said Al Giertych, assistant county engineer for the Lake County Division of Transportation. "There's never a good time to close a road, but for only eight hours, I think it'll be manageable."

Officials will close Petersen to thru traffic between Midlothian Road and Route 45 in Mundelein, officials said. Motorists are asked to detour around the area by using Midlothian Road to Winchester Road to Route 45.

Local traffic will be allowed from Midlothian Road to Franklin Boulevard, and from Route 45 onto Industrial Road.
