Why didn't Dist. 214 step in to mediate?
I have a couple of children who participate on athletic teams at Buffalo Grove High School. At the beginning of each sports season we as parents and our children as participants sign a code of co-curricular waiver explaining rules and expectations of the athlete and student. I believe that all District 214 athletes are required to sign this waiver to participate in sports.
An unfortunate incident involving student athletes occurred this past summer involving a Buffalo Grove student's home. Student athletes from Buffalo Grove and Prospect were present. Arrests and investigations were conducted.
All BG student athletes that were determined to be involved were "coded" and suspended from participating in events. It is my understanding that the Prospect athletes involved were not because the coaches involved stated that "video" confirmation was not provided.
First of all, I commend the BGHS staff and parents for making what I believe is a responsible decision.
Secondly, I wonder in my mind what the Prospect staff and family members were thinking.
Thirdly, how does this discrepancy in rules pass through the District 214 administration and board? How is it that one administration is allowed to put winning above developing and parenting student athletes?
