Hoffman must keep all police and fire

What a shame that firefighters and police officers must walk through Hoffman Estates neighborhoods to get people to sign a petition to keep jobs and services that have already been agreed on earlier this year. Seeing firefighters and their families walking through the neighborhood on a chilly Sunday afternoon shows how much they care for the people in the community they serve.

I always thought Public Safety would be the last place to make any cuts in tough times or not. Even Mayor McLeod said so in the Daily Herald - "If cuts are needed, they won't be in public safety" - according to a handout I received from the firefighters.

Perhaps a few more cuts in other areas should be considered such as parades, fireworks, administrative staff and salary cuts to the Hoffman Estates mayor and trustees. While some people in the community benefit from all the fun activities in the village, everyone needs or will use public safety services at some point, usually in an emergency, where every second counts.

Let's hope that Hoffman Estate residents continue to have fast responses from fire engines, police cars and ambulances. Please tell the mayor and trustees what to do at the Village Board meeting on Dec. 10 at 8 p.m.
