Christmas lunch for seniors:
Seniors needing a place to go on Christmas are invited to the 26th annual Christmas luncheon hosted by Heritage YMCA and funded by Rotary Charities Foundation at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 25 at Holiday Inn Select, 1801 N. Naper Blvd., Naperville. The event is free, but reservations are due by Dec. 18. Call Lauren Visher at (630) 420-3988. Volunteers also are needed for the event.
Census workers needed:
The U.S. Census Bureau's Chicago Regional Census Center is recruiting 100,000 people across the state to work as census takers for the 2010 Census between December 2009 and June 2010. The positions pay between $11.50 and $18.25 an hour. Most are part-time and temporary, lasting two to six weeks. Applicants are required to pass a basic skills test and undergo a background check. Toys for Tots drive:
The Fox Valley Park District and local police have launched their annual Toys for Tots drive to provide holiday gifts for less fortunate children throughout the area. Community members may drop off new, unwrapped toys at Fox Valley Park District facilities, the Aurora Police Department, The Aurora Fire Department, Aurora City Hall, the city of Aurora Building and Permits Department, the North Aurora Police Department, the Campton Hills Police Department, Daleiden Mortuary in Aurora, and the Kane County Sheriff's Office in Geneva. New White Sox academy:
The Chicago Bulls/Chicago White Sox Training Academy will open a new youth training facility during the first week in January in the Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center, 800 St. Charles Road, Glen Ellyn. The baseball and softball training facility will provide personal and team training for local players ages 5 to professional. This is the fifth training facility operated under the authority of the Chicago White Sox.
