Libertville police arrest Wisconsin man on check forging charges

Libertyville police have charged a Silver Lake, Wis., man with forging checks stolen from his 83-year-old father.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Ken Lorenz said James Madro, 43, was arrested after a traffic stop in Libertyville on Friday evening.

Lorenz said Madro had just cashed a check at a Libertyville grocery store for $291 and a clerk alerted police because of suspicions about the check.

Police found Madro had purchased gift cards with the money, Lorenz said, and discovered three other checks from Madro's father inside Madro's car.

Police are continuing to investigate the case, Lorenz said, and believe that Madro may have cashed other checks stolen from his father.

Madro is charged with forgery and delivery of a forged document and could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

On Saturday, he appeared before Associate Judge Sarah Lessman, who set Madro's bond at $100,000 and ordered him to appear in court again Dec. 10.
