Do-gooders do not do good

This is in response to Ms. Harrop's Nov. 26 editorial regarding the health care spending debate. Having worked in health care for 40 years I'm more aware of the issues, incompetency, problems and potential solutions than Ms Harrop. Her immature and emotional ranting about "moronic death panels," competency of government tasks forces and 60-minute documentaries demonstrate her biased views.

It is hardly ever recognized that our government created many of our financial health care problems. Unnecessary treatments are the result of a system created by Congress which has been forced on the industry and public and enforced by the greedy legal system.

Government has overmanaged their solutions and are overly influenced by special interest groups and social engineers. This is not to say that physicians, hospitals and industry haven't contributed to the problem. There has been a lack of accountability on the part of the public, the industry and politicians.

We've all tolerated bureaucracies that manufacture busywork in the system. Few are seeking the status quo and dramatic rhetoric in editorials serve no purpose but arouse divisiveness.

The current proposed bill will significantly and adversely affect our freedom of choice, increase costs, limit the advance of medicine and desired patient outcomes.
