Woman seriously hurt in crash
A woman was seriously injured after her car collided with a semitrailer Thursday afternoon near Libertyville, authorities said.
The crash closed Route 60 around St. Mary's Road for nearly four hours while crews worked on the scene.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., an unidentified woman traveling east on Route 60 turned her 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier into the path of the truck while attempting to go north on St. Mary's, Lake County sheriff's Lt. John Crilly said.
The woman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, Crilly said. He didn't know the extent of her injuries.
The truck, which didn't spill the load of mud it was hauling, knocked over a traffic light and continued 30 feet off the road and into a forested area.
Though the truck driver wasn't injured, he was also taken to Condell for routine drug and alcohol testing. Crilly said there was no reason to believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
The Lake County sheriff's office continues to investigate, and no one has been cited, Crilly said.
