Chicago man denies Kane County drug charges

A Chicago man Friday denied charges he sold crack cocaine to undercover narcotics officers in Kane County.

David J. Johnson, 38, pleaded not guilty in Kane County Circuit Court to calculated criminal drug conspiracy charges punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Johnson was one of two Chicago men arrested in early September after selling cocaine to narcotics agents in Aurora twice over the summer, police said. Co-defendant Michael A. Mattix, 46, also has pleaded not guilty.

Officials at the North Central Narcotics Task Force have said Johnson and Mattix routinely dealt drugs in the Western suburbs. They were arrested in Lisle after failing to show up for an undercover drug buy.

Both Johnson and Mattix remained in the Kane County jail Friday on $150,000 bonds.

Johnson is due back in court Dec. 11.
