Sox don't offer arbitration to Dye, Dotel, Podsednik

As expected, the White Sox have decided against offering salary arbitration to their free agents Jermaine Dye, Octavio Dotel, Scott Podsednik and backup catcher Ramon Castro, according to a report on mlb.com.

The deadline to offer arbitration is 11 p.m. today.

Dotel and Dye were Type-A free agents while Castro and Podsednik did not receive a free-agent rating, meaning no additional compensation is required.

If arbitration had been offered and declined by either Dye or Dotel, the Sox could have received two draft picks in return from the team they eventually signed with. By the White Sox taking that position, the players may be able to receive better offers since other clubs can avoid the draft compensation.

The Sox bought out Dye for $950,000 shortly after the 2009 season ended.

If the players don't sign with other clubs, they could renegotiate with the White Sox.
