Woman charged with trying to tape 'New Moon' at Rosemont theater
A Chicago woman was charged with a felony Monday for trying to videotape the movie "Twilight: New Moon" off a movie theater screen, Rosemont police officials said.
Samantha Tumpach, 22, of the 3800 block of Odell Avenue, was charged with criminal use of a motion picture exhibition facility, a Class 4 felony, after she was caught using a hand held video recorder to tape the popular movie at Muvico Theater at 9701 Bryn Mawr Ave., said Rosemont Police spokesman Sgt. Keith Kania.
Kania said an usher noticed Tumpach videotaping the movie and alerted management of the theater. The manager pulled her out of the theater and called police, Kania said.
Kania said two copies of the movie were on the camera when the video was reviewed by police.
He said the theater pressed charges against Tumpach, and the Cook County State's Attorney's office approved the charge of criminal use of a motion picture exhibition facility.
Tumpach was released Monday on a personal recognizance bond. She could spend up to three years in jail if found guilty of the offense.
