Three-year sentence for fourth DUI
Driving sans headlights got Sergio Centeno-Cruz pulled over on a traffic violation. That, plus driving under the influence of alcohol earned him three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Centeno-Cruz, of the 800 block of Cambridge Place in Wheeling, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a charge of aggravated DUI stemming from an incident that occurred in the early morning of June 17.
A Wheeling police officer stopped the 43-year-old man after the officer encountered Centeno-Cruz driving without his headlights in the 200 block of W. Dundee Road. Centeno-Cruz failed field sobriety tests and had a blood-alcohol content of .132, said Assistant State's Attorney Shilpa Patel during a sentencing hearing at Rolling Meadows' Third Municipal District.
Centeno-Cruz, also known as Sergio Santana and Sergio Vasquez, was convicted under those aliases of misdemeanor DUIs in 2002 and 2003. He was also convicted of a felony DUI in 2005, for which he received 24 months probation.
