Opera lecture to focus on 'The Merry Widow'

The Friends of the Library are pleased to bring the Chicago Lyric Opera to residents of Dundee Township as they continue their ongoing opera lecture series.

Chicago Lyric Opera lecturer Marian Goldberg will present "The Merry Widow" at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Dundee Township Public Library, 555 Barrington Ave. (Route 68) in East Dundee.

Goldberg's lecture will focus on the stories, performers, history, and musical selections of Franz Lehar's operetta about the beautiful, pursued, and very rich widow, Hanna Glawari. Romantic entanglements and a lively musical score make this story unforgettable.

The event is free, but registration is required. To register, call the library at (847) 428-3661 or visit dundeelibrary.info.

The next lecture, scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, will feature Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro." The program will be presented by Chicago Lyric Opera lecturer William Nelson.
