Elk Grove Village man gets three years for break-in

An Elk Grove Village man received a three-year prison sentence Tuesday after pleading guilty to an Arlington Heights burglary in January.

Kevin Woods, of the 200 block of Walnut Lane, admitted he and co-defendant Vernon Thompson, of Glen Ellyn, broke through a sliding-glass door of an apartment in the 2200 block of South Goebbert Road on Jan. 17 while a third co-defendant, Gina Gerardi, also of Glen Ellyn, waited in the getaway car.

As part of the negotiated plea Woods, 22, admitted to stealing an X-Box, said Assistant State's Attorney Mike Clarke.

At the time, Woods was on parole for a 2007 burglary. His criminal history also includes a 2005 conviction for possession of a stolen vehicle. Cook County Circuit Court Judge John Scotillo agreed to abide by the sentencing recommendation, but indicated he felt a more severe sentence was warranted.

For his part in the break-in, Thompson was sentenced to boot camp, said Clarke while Gerardi received probation.
