Couple was determined to recover towed car
A man and woman were so anxious to recover his towed car, police say, that they drove through the security fence at the Rolling Meadows impound to get it back.
Jonathan R. Langer, 20, of the 900 block of Muirfield Lane, Inverness, and Shannon M. Fitzpatrick, 19, of the 4000 block of Bayside Drive, Palatine, were charged with theft of services and criminal trespass. They posted bond and will be in court Jan. 6.
Police said Fitzpatrick crashed her car through a security fence at Northwest Recovery, 4000 Industrial Ave., Rolling Meadows, on Nov. 28. Langer then jumped out, got into his own car, which had been parked behind the locked security fence, and the two drove away.
Police said they found Langer at his Inverness home and the car parked in the garage.
They searched the Palatine area where Langer's car had apparently been parked when it was towed and noticed the damage on Fitzpatrick's car, said Sgt. Tony Gaspari of the Rolling Meadows Police Department.
The tow bill was $170, said Gaspari, speculating that Fitzpatrick's car might have suffered more damage than that.
