Christian Liberty starts 2-0

It has been a smooth road so far for Christian Liberty in the boys basketball program's first year in the IHSA.

On Monday night, the Chargers went up to Grayslake and won their opener by 21 points at Westlake Christian. On Tuesday night, they went out to Kirkland and beat Hiawatha 45-36 in their Northeastern Athletic Conference opener.

Gabe Clayborne had a game-high 16 points as Christian Liberty took a 12-3 lead after a quarter at Hiawatha. Mike Hennek scored 9 points and Luke Comerouski and Aaron Johnson added 8 points apiece.

Clayborne (12 points, 5 assists) and Comerouski (13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) led the Chargers in their 43-22 win at Westlake. Johnson and Nathan Elleson added 8 points apiece.

Christian Liberty plays its home opener at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Alden-Hebron.
