Abortion: Paying for one's own mistakes

Regardless of whether abortion is "right," the government should not be spending time and money on this lost cause. Society will never agree on abortion. Abortion is a personal situation and choice that has many special cases.

Many views on abortion are religious as well. So why is the government so concerned with it? There are far more important issues that need to be taken care of, such as social security or the $10 trillion deficit, before we worry about an operation that is considered a luxury.

The government is already ready low on money, so why spend our tax dollars on a personal, and more importantly, optional operation? Worrying about abortion is a waste of time. The Stupak amendment to the House's Nov. 7 health care plan was necessary, not because it could be considered pro-life, but because it limits the government spending toward abortions. It is not discriminating against women, but making them responsible for their own actions. Should a woman choose to get an abortion, it is reasonable to ask her to pay for it. With the exception of rape, incest or life threat to the mother (which the amendment also makes exception to), women need accept the consequences of having unsafe sex and pay, literally and figuratively, for their own mistakes.
