Williams pitches in as Fremd hits 105

Points will be much tougher to get once Fremd's boys basketball team gets into the Mid-Suburban West.

But the Vikings hope players such as senior Quinn Williams will also make them more difficult to defend.

Williams scored a career-high 19 points Friday afternoon as the Vikings (2-0) rolled past Woodstock North 105-33 in the third annual Coaches Vs. Cancer Thanksgiving Tournament at Crystal Lake Central.

"Chris (Klimek) and Zach (Monaghan) are our go-to guys but I tried to do my part when I could," Williams said, "and hit shots when I'm open."

Williams went 7-for-9 from the field as the Vikings shot 66 percent (41-for-62). He hit all three of his 3-pointers as they finished 9-for-17 as a team against Woodstock North (0-2), a first-year varsity program with no seniors and two juniors on its roster.

Klimek had 14 points, Monaghan had 12 points and two 3s, Chris Vainisi scored 11 with two 3s and Jack Konopka added 10. Seniors Nick Pflederer and Charlie Rosenberg scored 8 points apiece.

The Vikings also scored 56 points off 42 turnovers en route to a school record for points in a game, according to Daily Herald records. The 1988-89 Sweet 16 team led by Todd Leslie beat Streamwood 104-67.

"We'd like to be able to make them guard five guys and we shared the ball fairly well," said Fremd coach Bob Widlowski. "For us to be a good team we have to get contributions from everybody on the floor."

Williams had 14 points as Fremd led 62-24 at halftime.

"Quinn has had two games in a row where he's done a nice job at both ends of the floor," Widlowski said.

"I think for sure defensively I've improved a lot, and offensively as well," said Williams. "But more defensively of course."

Fremd passed 100 points on Ken Leonard's 3 with 5:36 left. John Reising's free throw was its only point in the last 5:07.
