Lake County briefs

More flu vaccines coming:

Although rates have declined for the second week in a row, flu-like illness continues to be widespread, according to the Lake County Health Department. To date, the department has provided or allocated approximately 70,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine but there are about 300,000 Lake County residents in high risk categories who should receive it. In December, the department will begin a new series of appointment-only H1N1 vaccine clinics for people in high risk categories. The locations and schedule will be announced in early December. Vaccines also are being provided to patients at the department's community health center sites in North Chicago, Zion, Waukegan, Highland Park and Round Lake Beach. Visit idph.state.il.us/H1N1 to view locations. Since spring, there have been 83 hospitalizations and five deaths in Lake County related to the H1N1 flu.
