Mom's final days treated with dignity
Our mother, Annabelle Kuhn, passed away recently at Independence Village in Naperville. She was a week short of her 94th birthday and had lived in Naperville for 89 of her 94 years. The last 22 months, she lived at Independence Village.
She had moved to the independent living facility when it became obvious that living alone, providing her own transportation and subsistence was no longer an acceptable option. She always bragged about the food at Independence Village, quite a compliment from someone known far and wide as one of the best cooks and bakers in the farm community. At Independence Village there was bingo, musical entertainment, books to trade, tablemates, weekly rosary and communion service and a bus to church, stores and banking. Yes, it offered her the independence she wanted.
Annabelle slept away on a Saturday morning, Oct. 24, her daughter-in- law found her unresponsive. She, a nurse, praised the staff for being efficient with details while being caring and compassionate until and after more family arrived. It was truly evident to our family that the staff cares about the residents at Independence Village. They address each resident by name and treat them with respect and dignity. We are thankful that our mother was able to spend her final days in this loving atmosphere.
