Sangamon County official dead in Lake Michigan

Authorities say a man whose body was pulled from Lake Michigan near Chicago's downtown Buckingham Fountain has been identified as an official with the circuit clerk's office of Sangamon County.

Authorities say 40-year-old Matthew Dennison of Springfield was head of the circuit court clerk's passport division and its traffic division. Sangamon County Circuit Clerk Tony Libri, who identified Dennison's body, says they went to Chicago on Sunday to attend a meeting of the Illinois Association of County Officials.

The Chicago Fire Department says a jogger spotted Dennison's body early Monday morning.

Chicago police are conducting a death investigation, and an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday at the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
