Miklasz brothers help Hersey start off in winning fashion
Kyle Miklasz worked hard in the off-season to improve his game.
The sharpshooter known for his 3-point shooting ability focused on upgrading his ability to get to the basket - and Monday night at the York Turkey tournament at York High School, Miklasz's ability to get to the basket was on display.
The 6-foot-4 senior scored 20 points to lead the Hersey Huskies past the Michele Clark Eagles 72-49.
Every time Miklasz got the ball, it seemed as if he could get anywhere he wanted on the floor.
"I got quicker in the off-season, so I just took what they gave me," Miklasz said.
Also getting in on the scoring action was Miklasz's younger brother Connor. The junior Miklasz led the Huskies (1-0) in scoring by hitting 21. Although pleased with the offense, Connor was not happy with the defense.
"We could've done better," Connor Miklasz said. "We didn't slide over on defense. We just stuck out our arms. We need to work on defense and taking charges."
Connor Miklasz's displeasure with the defense was echoed by Huskies coach Steve Messer.
"We played bad defensively," Messer said. "We were reacting slowly."
Messner did like the energy his team played with throughout the game.
"They played together, and they shared the ball," he said. "They were trying to execute."
The Huskies also received big contributions from sophomore forward Vuk Vukovic, who scored 16 points, and solid defensive effort from senior John Mijal coming off the bench.
Sophomore guard Marshauwn Buie (21 points, four 3-pointers) and junior Xavier Biles (13 points) led the Eagles (0-1).
