Experimental health policy risky business

I am very concerned that our government is biting off more than it can chew. Sadly, the U.S. Government has a terrible record for efficiency and financial responsibility; just look at Medicare, the U.S. Post Office, Amtrak and hundreds of bureaus, "the war on poverty" and on and on.

If history is any guide (and what else can we use to indicate future results) our government will most likely screw up the health care system and at a cost that will bankrupt the country. All in the name of insuring the currently uninsured citizens (and non-citizens?). It would be far cheaper and safer to just make insurance companies compete (by letting them operate between states) and subsidize the currently uninsured with private health insurance coverage.

Please, in a time of financial instability (read: "double-digit unemployment") and low growth, "remaking" such a huge part of our economy as our health care system, with nearly 2,000 pages of experimental policy is irresponsible and risky business. Nearly insane, I would say.
