Champaign man sentenced to 85 years in prison
URBANA -- A Champaign County judge has sentenced 29-year-old Granville Johnson to a total of 85 years in prison for the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Gregory Moore and the attempted murder of Moore's cousin, Isaac Moore.
In passing sentence Friday, Circuit Court Judge John Kennedy called the shootings "atrocious."
Gregory Moore was shot twice in the head in July of last year as he sat in a parked van outside Johnson's home in Champaign. Isaac Moore was shot in the elbow inside the van and again in the back after he got out to run away.
A jury convicted Johnson of both crimes in August. It was the third trial for Johnson, his first and second trials in May and June ending in mistrials when juries could not come to unanimous verdicts.
