McHenry County community makes most of peaceful setting

Running Brook Farm, a new-home community in Johnsburg, presents two series of luxury single-family homes with two decorated models from the Classic series for visitors to tour.

The community by Reserve One Homes features a secluded, peaceful country setting, yet is just minutes from city conveniences.

Situated in northeast McHenry County seven miles south of the Wisconsin state line, Running Brook Farm also offers townhouses, maintenance-free single-family homes and maintenance-free duplexes.

"Running Brook Farm is a diverse community that offers something for people of all ages and lifestyles," said Candace Porter, marketing coordinator. "Although people are active with each other, the community has a quietness to it."

Community amenities include rolling terrain, pedestrian trails and an adjacent village park.

One of the featured models is the Carlyle, a two-story design priced from $265,990 with 2,765 square feet, four bedrooms, 21/2 baths, basement and two-car garage. Its two-story foyer with ceramic tile flooring opens to a bright and cheery interior with lots of artwork and yellow, blue and white color scheme.

In the living room, blue walls contrast with white draperies and furnishings, while the dining room features a glass-fronted china cabinet and wood table set for four. The two rooms combine to create a large space for entertaining.

The island kitchen features stainless steel appliances, dark wood cabinetry, breakfast bar and pantry. The breakfast area with optional desk or wet bar shows a bistro table, and accesses the deck.

The open floor plan in the rear allows the cook to interact with family members or guests in the adjoining family room. With natural light from two skylights, the two-story family room features a brick fireplace with wood mantel, gold sofa and two chairs.

Off the family room, a sunroom with two walls of windows features wicker furnishings while an area rug adds color and texture. This is a great spot for morning coffee or a drink before dinner.

Upstairs, the loft shows a big oversized chair for reading and a practice putting green with golf clubs.

Set apart from other bedrooms for privacy, the master suite with tray ceiling offers a restful retreat after a busy day. Walk-in and wardrobe closets provide plenty of space for homeowners' threads while furnishings include a dark wood four-poster bed and two chairs. Blue draperies dress the windows.

The luxury bath has dual sinks and vanity with chair, soaking tub with ceramic tile deck and walk-in shower with tile surround.

A full hall bath serves the two secondary bedrooms. One is all decked out for the Cubs fan and the other shows white furnishings and a colorful quilt that covers a day bed.

The Eden, a ranch design priced from $248,990, features 2,171 square feet, three bedrooms, two baths, basement and two-car garage.

An open flowing floor plan and ease of one-story living make this home a popular choice. In contrast to the Carlyle, it shows hardwood floors and dark rich colors throughout.

The two-story foyer brings you into the living room on the right, where burgundy walls and dark woods give the room a dramatic feel. A leather sofa and burgundy and green plaid chairs provide plenty of seating while a bay window adds interest. On the opposite side of the foyer, the dining room features the simplicity of Mission style furnishings with a china cabinet and table set for four with gold and burgundy place settings.

The family room with volume ceiling and two skylights features a stone fireplace with wood mantle and windows on either side. With a sectional and three chairs, this space is large enough for the whole family to gather. A wood bookcase displays family photos and other favorite items.

The spacious kitchen with pantry and breakfast area has off-white appliances and dark wood cabinets. Set for four, a round wood table sits in the breakfast area.

With a cathedral ceiling and plenty of light from three windows, the sunroom shows wicker furnishings and accesses the patio.

Crowned with a cathedral ceiling, the master suite features dark green walls, a luxurious burgundy and gold spread, burgundy draperies and walk-in closet. The bath has two sinks with vanity, oversized tub with tile deck and separate walk-in shower with tile surround.

Secondary bedrooms include a guest room with burgundy floral spread and draperies and a room with a cowboy motif furnished with a single bed topped with a quilt. The bedrooms share the second full bath.
