Round Lake Panthers
Head coach Gary Edge (24th season)
2008-09 season 23-5, 11-1 NSC Prairie
They're gone The Big Three -guard Labrenthia Murdock and post Amber Phillips and Ashley Miller - have moved on. Each was a four-year varsity player and last season led the Panthers to the NSC Prairie championship. Murdock (Lewis University) was a three-time all-area player who averaged 15 ppg as a senior. Phillips, a two-time all-area selection, and Miller (Blackburn College) were 6-footers who rebounded and defended the post. Stephanie Infante, a starting guard last season, is concentrating on volleyball.
Starting five Junior guard Chanae Brown is the only returning starter for a team that will lack size and varsity experience. Two other juniors, Krystal Pitts and Sam Danguilan, both of whom were on varsity last season, will join Brown in the backcourt. "Chanae, she's pretty darn quick," Edge said. "Krystal Pitts is quick. And Sam, she's not slow." Senior Yesenia Rios will start at a post, while the other starter will be either junior Sydnee Miller (Ashley's sister) or senior Kenzie Phillips (Amber's sister).
Off the bench Seniors Lauren Siems and Vanessa Rodriguiz should be two of Edge's first players to substitute in. Sophomore Adriana Pitts (Krystal's sister) should play too. "We're not as deep as we have been in the past," Edge said.
Edge says "We're small (no one taller than 5-9), but we will be quicker than last year. We'll have to use our quickness to our advantage."
