Head coach Ben Berg (second season)
2008-09 season 18-11, 5-5 in ESCC
They're gone Guard/forward Tiffany Hendrickson (Concordia University Wisconsin) was the Corsairs' lone all-conference pick and leading scorer each of the last three seasons. She was a two-time all-area player. Forward Lauren Lehocky was a consistent double-digit scorer, and Jenna Korte was a legitimate post presence.
Starting five Junior point guard Erin Quinn and junior post Beth Scudder return as starters. Senior center Kristine Ruhl moves into the starting lineup after being Berg's first big off the bench last season, and she scored a career-high 18 points in the Corsairs' season opener Tuesday. "Kristine and Beth give us experience in the post," Berg said. Quinn should be improved in her second season running the offense. "She stabilizes us on offense," Berg said. "She's really determined to being a great leader - a vocal leader, which we need on the floor." Sophomore Jackie Meier also starts after being one of the first guards off the bench as a freshman. Senior guard Julie Taylor also started Tuesday.
Off the bench There are three sophomores in Madeline Felipez and 5-10 posts Sarah McHugh and Kaitlyn Lynch. Felipez and McHugh, a pair of good athletes, provided good minutes coming off the bench in the opener. Seniors Betsy Kristan and Stephanie Bruenning were both on varsity last season. "I think we're deeper than we were last year," Berg said.
Berg says "I've told the girls, 'It's a long season. There are going to be ups and downs.' But it's a very together group. We did a lot of things together in the off-season, not just playing together but being together."
