Last year 22-5

Postseason Lost 49-46 to Benet in Class 4A Hinsdale South regional championship game

Key losses Kara Lydon, Natalie Tarter, Melissa Norville.

Top returnees Sara Fruendt (sr., G, 5-11); Liz Barnes (sr., G, 5-8); Kelsey Stone (sr., C, 6-1).

Newcomers to watch Sami Villarreal (fr., G); Roni Resek (so., G); Michaela Strehlau (so., G).

Outlook Batavia lost more to graduation than any team in the area. Tarter and Norville, both track stars, also provided quite a boost to the basketball team while Lydon could catch fire from the 3-point line and be counted on for double-figure scoring. She averaged 10.8 points a game while Norville was at 14.7 and Norville chipped in 6 to go with 5.4 rebounds and 3.1 steals. Now the only starter back is Fruendt, whose scoring average will rise after a junior year when her job was to get the ball to Tarter, Lydon and others, which she did with a team-high 2.5 assists a game to go with a couple steals and 3 rebounds and 4 points a game. "We're going to try to reload and count on other girls to pick up the scoring," DeBruycker said. "I feel like we've got a lot of good candidates." One of those is the freshman Villarreal, who could see time at point and allow Fruendt more opportunities to look to score off the ball. Barnes is another who should see her scoring average shoot up after chipping in 3.1 points off the bench last year, and DeBruycker is excited to see what Stone can do inside.
