2008-09 season 14-14, 6-6 NSC Prairie
They're gone Guard Katrina Holm was the Sequoits' lone all-conference representative last season. Center Martha Arntson and fellow veterans Brittany Deem and Katie Budd also graduated.
Starting five Too bad junior point guard Andi Potkonjak couldn't have redshirted last season. Hoping to build a promising freshman campaign in which she was the varsity's best player, she saw her season end just three minutes into the season opener when she tore her ACL. She had surgery in December. "She looks really good," Borries said. "I don't know if she's 100 percent. I don't know if you ever recover 100 percent from a knee injury like that. But she looks fast, quick, and looks like she's got her step back." Lindsey Gofron took over the point and as a freshman showed plenty of skill and potential, collecting all-tournament honors at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now a sophomore, Gofron will pair up with Potkonjak in the backcourt. "She's very versatile," Borries said of Gofron. "She can play in the backcourt, she can play small forward and I wouldn't be afraid to put her at big forward. She's very strong and a heady basketball player." Senior forward Allie Anttila, who just signed a softball scholarship with Georgetown, is another veteran. The forward can shoot and take the ball to the rim. Junior forward Lauren Tiffany played varsity last winter and made great strides over the summer, Borries said. The other starting candidates include veteran forward Lauren Grant and 6-1 sophomore newcomer Jessica Ploss. Gofron, Grant and Ploss were all key members of the volleyball team that earned a share of the NSC Prairie title.
Off the bench Borries has just 10 players on his roster. Junior post Nicole Kelly provided good minutes last season and, according to Borries, has made big strides. Megan Petty, Sarah Gaborek and Anna Bomberry provide senior leadership.
Borries says "Everybody's going to play. I want to play up-tempo on both ends of the court. Doing that, you need depth on the bench."
