One dead, one injured after crash in Gurnee
A 93-year-old man is dead and his 90-year-old wife remains hospitalized with severe injuries following a two-vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon in Gurnee.
Paramedics took the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Gurnee police Cmdr. Jay Patrick said. She was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt, with her husband in the front passenger's seat. Patrick called her injuries severe.
The deceased was identified as Adam Kalinowksi of the nearby 4400 block of Washington Street in Gurnee, said Lake County Coroner Richard Keller. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, but it appears he died of multiple trauma, Keller added.a
Emergency personnel responded at 2:47 p.m. to Washington Street, east of Cemetery Road. The Chevrolet, traveling east on Washington, skidded into oncoming traffic and smashed into a westbound 1999 Ford F-250 pick-up truck driven by a 22-year-old man who lives near Libertyville.
The Ford swerved to avoid contact and slid sideways, but still hit the right side of the silver Chevrolet sedan, Patrick said. Kalinowksi was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 21-year-old was riding as a passenger in the Ford, but nothing was mentioned about any injuries to the those in the truck. Police were able to interview the two occupants.
No citations have been issued, and the crash remains under investigation.
