90 days in jail for Villa Park coin-op theft

Nathan A. Philip's guilty plea to burglary charges Wednesday may provide him with a great 21st birthday present -- his freedom.

The 20-year-old Villa Park man was sentenced to 90 days in jail after entering his plea, but with credit for time served and the fact that he only has to serve half of the sentence, he should be released a day before his Nov. 24 birthday.

Philip and another man were accused of breaking into change machines and coin-operated dryers at a Villa Park apartment complex laundry facility in September. Philip also has to pay $180 for the damages and any losses suffered by the owners of the machines. He must also serve two years of probation.

Police caught up with Philip after neighbors reported seeing him and his accomplice flee the scene in Philip's girlfriend's car. Prosecutors said the girlfriend was prepared to testify that Philip had borrowed car the day of the burglary.
