Revamped outdoors show at Rosemont in January

"My 2010 show promises quite a few surprises."

That bold statement comes from Jim Sugarman, who flies to Chicago almost every week in order to be the hands-on boss of the new America's Outdoor Show coming to Rosemont in January.

He says the five-day extravaganza will have an entirely new look, compared to the last 15 years or so.

Sugarman, a Southern California show organizer, promises a "tasty venue" for show-goers starting Jan. 27 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

Fishing update: The fall fishing in this area continues at a blistering pace.

Fox Chain: Even water levels have dropped, muskie action is still quite good, especially on Lake Catherine and Lake Marie. Pistakee Lake walleyes appear to be hanging out in shallow water and have been on a feeding binge.

Fox River: Check the Batavia area for smallmouth action. Look just north of the Route 176 bridge for the frequent flurries of walleye activity.

Lake Michigan: If you have a desire to pop some very good perch catches, the best spot right now is in and just outside Calumet Harbor at 95th Street.
