Fire destroys Antioch dog salon

A fire early Tuesday destroyed a downtown Antioch business.

The Barker Shoppe Dog Grooming Salon was gutted by the blaze, which started just after midnight, Antioch Fire Lt. Chris Lienhardt said. Two upstairs apartments also were heavily damaged.

No one was injured, and no animals were in the salon at the time of the fire, Lienhardt said.

Lienhardt said firefighters responded to a call about smoke coming from the building at 928 Main St. at about 12:45 a.m.

Firefighters using thermal imaging cameras entered the two-story structure to find heavy fire and smoke. Leinhardt said the blaze caused the roof to collapse.

The adjacent Antioch Trains and Hobby also suffered smoke damage.

The fire was out within an hour but crews remained on the scene until about 6 a.m. Antioch got help from the Fox Lake, Round Lake and Lake Villa fire departments.

There was no damage estimate and the cause is unknown, according to officials. The incident is under investigation.
