5 residents escape, but one hurt in Naperville fire

One person was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville early Tuesday with minor injuries after fire struck a two-story attached residence on the 3000 block of Crystal Rock on the city's southwest side.

Firefighters said they arrived at 2:08 a.m. to find smoke coming from the first-floor garage area.

Authorities said five residents escaped the building before firefighters arrived.

An adjoining residential unit also was evacuated.

Firefighters forced open the overhead garage door to gain access to the fire, which also began to spread into the living area of the residence.

Crews brought the fire under control by 2:26 a.m.

Firefighters said damage to the garage and a car parked inside was substantial. There was smoke damage and minor fire damage in the kitchen area.

No official cost estimates were available Tuesday morning.

Fire investigators were at the scene Tuesday to determine the cause and origin of the fire. A Naperville building inspector also was on hand.
