Wolves hold on, edge Aeros
HOUSTON - The Chicago Wolves held on to a 1-goal lead for the final 22:42 to edge the Houston Aeros 2-1 Sunday at the Toyota Center.
Center Jason Krog led the way with a goal and an assist, and right wing Spencer Machacek scored the game-winner. The victory was the Wolves' third in as many nights.
On the game's first goal, Krog sent the puck across the ice to left wing Brett Sterling, who wristed a shot from the faceoff dot. Aeros goalie Anton Khudobin made the stop, but Krog picked up the rebound and stuffed it into the net at 4:44 of the second period.
Houston tied it up on the power play, 11:53 into the second period. Wolves goalie Peter Mannino stopped 26 shots.
The Wolves netted their own power-play goal at 17:18 of the second period. Krog passed the puck across the ice to defenseman Arturs Kulda, who rocketed a shot that rebounded off the boards and behind the goal.
Machacek picked the puck up and sent it past Khudobin for the lead the Wolves would not relinquish.
The Wolves conclude their season-high, six-game road trip Friday at Rockford.
